BEACHES

The coastal resort of Nerja is nice – in addition to the beaches in the town, which get busy in the height of the summer there’s a quiet beach at Playa del Moro - about 4 km to the east of the Nerja town towards Salobreña. To reach these beaches take the road to Torrox out of Competa.

The resort of Torre del Mar is used by Spanish families and has a long traffic free promenade with a children’s’ play area and tennis courts with barbecue restaurants on the beach. Most of these hire out sun umbrellas and sun beds. The beach is wide and flat. To reach Torre del Mar take the road down to the coast towards Algarrobo and go straight ahead at the roundabout that leads to the motorway. At the end of that road bear right to Algarrobo Costa and continue on towards Torre del Mar turning left off this road down to the beach.

There is a nudist beach at Playa Catarrijan just before you approach La Herredura which is situated at the base of a pine clad ravine. It has shingle sand and two beach bars which serve good fresh fish and offer sunbeds and umbrellas to hire. You can even enjoy a massage.

The Moorish palace of Alhambra in Granada is well worth a trip - just make sure you ring to book beforehand [call 902 22 44 60 in Spain or (+34) 91 346 59 36 from abroad or visit www.alhambratickets.com]. It’s very nice to come home by the back roads too (but a lot slower of course). We recommend an overnight stay which allows you to explore the city as well as the Alhambra. You can join a guided walking tour which shows you the heart of the city. For atmosphere stay in the Albaicin area.
Cordoba, Seville and Ronda are all within a reasonable drive of the villa but we recommend an overnight stay to do justice to Cordoba and Seville.
